Pregnant elephant killed with cracker filled fruit; suspect under custody

The Forest Department has reportedly taken a person under custody, in link with the incident of an elephant being killed with cracker filled fruit. Going in line with the reports, the person, who is identified as an estate supervisor from Ambalappara, Palakkad, has confessed the crime. The accused, however denied any intentional activity behind the incident. Maintaining that the fruit filled cracker was placed in order to kill boars, which create tantrums in estate. He also added that elephant was never in picture, while placing the cracker filled fruit. The arrest of the accused is likely to take place today.

Earlier, the incident of the pregnant elephant suffering from serious injuries due to consuming a cracker filled fruit, invited nationwide attention. Several known personalities have come forward condemning the incident.
