Kerala recorded 55,521 COVID deaths between July 2021 and July 2022- the highest number of COVID deaths in the country- according to latest figures presented in parliament. According to figures presented in Lok Sabha on July 22, Kerala recorded 22,843 COVID deaths in 2022 as on July 19, again the highest for any state in India, this year.
Kerala is also the only state which has recorded more than 20,000 deaths so far in 2022. Death figures for all other states are below 2,000 except for Maharashtra which has recorded 6,508 deaths this year.
Parliament figures show that Kerala had recorded 11,721 deaths as on July 14, 2021. The cumulative COVID deaths for 2021 and 2022 till July 19 in Kerala is 67,242. So looking at the graph, Kerala added 55,521 COVID deaths marking an increase of 473% between July 2021 and July 2022.
