Indian government, according to the reports, is going to provide cash incentives for electric vehicles in the country. Reportedly, the government is going to shell INR 9,400 Cr towards promoting the zero emission pure electric mobility in India. As per the plans, a cash incentive of INR 2.5 lakh would be given to vehicles, which costs up to INR 15 lakh. For two wheelers, a cash incentive of INR 30,000 would be given to those models, the cost of which comes under INR 1.5 lakh.
The move is part of scrapping the pre BS III vehicles, and boosting the sales of electric or hybrid vehicles. However the major headache would be regarding the setting up of EV charging stations. Available reports suggest that one EV charging station would be set up in every 9 square kilometers.
