The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce has banned all the newly announced films in Malayalam. The ban is applicable for those films, which were announced after the end of a nationwide lockdown period. There were several controversies surrounded by the commencement of filmmaking post lockdown, as the various film organizations functioning in the state haven’t reached in on a consensus between the terms of filmmaking. With the announcement made by the Film Chamber, the newly started projects wouldn’t be allowed to screen in theatres.

Producers’ Association had already announced a ban on the commencement of new films. However, several young filmmakers in the state have openly expressed their unhappiness over the decision of the Producers’ Association. Filmmakers like Lijo Jose Pellissery, Aashiq Abu have made it clear that they would begin their filmmaking, defying the announcement made by the Producers’ Association. That said, it has to be seen how the decision is going to affect high profile projects, such as superstar Mohanlal’s ‘Drishyam 2’, to be directed by Jeethu Joseph. Meanwhile, FEFKA has already expressed solidarity with newly announced films.
