During the negotiations, it was reported that the two armies had come face to face with the Chinese troops in the Galvan Valley. Two Chinese soldiers were reportedly killed in the clashes. Colonel B. Santhosh Babu hails from Andhra Pradesh. Indian military officials said that senior military officials from both sides are meeting to calm the situation. For the first time since the 1975 war, tensions on the Chinese border have led to the deaths of soldiers.
An emergency meeting was convened by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh following the Chinese attack. CDS, Army Chiefs and Foreign Minister S. Jayashankar also attended the meeting. After the meeting ended at 1 pm, Rajnath left the Defense Ministry to his residence.
