Unlock 1.0: Churches in Kerala have different opinions

As the nation entering ‘Unlock 1.0’ tomorrow, several religious institutions are expected to open up. However, different opinions are being raised from different corners. Considering the complicated situation, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Verapoly (Varapuzha) has announced that it is not giving any particular instructions regarding the opening up of churches; rather, individual churches could decide, whether to open the churches or not. Nevertheless, the Archdiocese maintained that not more than 15 people should enter the church at a time.

The Ernakulam – Angamaly Archdiocese took the decision of holding back the holy Qurbana until June 30. The archdiocese, however gave consent to the conductance of marriage and baptisms. Various churches have requested exempting bishops from the age restriction imposed by the government. As of now, only people aged between 10 and 65 are permitted to enter religious institutions from tomorrow onwards, as the nation enters its ‘Unlock 1.0’ phase.
