The Supreme Court rejected the Nirbhaya verdict and the accused was sentenced to death

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed Akshay Singh Thakur’s plea seeking review of the Nirbhaya case. The bench comprising Justices R Banumati, AS Bopanna and Ashok Bhushan rejected the petition. One of the four accused, Akshay Singh Thakur, filed a review petition on December 12. The review petitions filed by the other three defendants were dismissed in July 2018.

He was taken to Tihar Jail last week after the mercy plea of ​​another accused Vinay Sharma was withdrawn. He was kept in the Manduli Prison in New Delhi. Akshay, Mukesh Singh and Pawan Gupt are also in Tihar jail. After the suicide of the accused Ram Singh, they were shifted to different places.

The three-member bench, which was set up for hearing on the reconsideration petition, had earlier quashed Chief Justice SA Bobde. The Chief Justice of India withdrew from the case after his relative, lawyer Arjun Bobde, appeared before the court. Advocating for Nirbhaya’s family, while considering the petition for reconsideration of the other three accused. Arjun Bobde was in attendance.

On December 16, 2012, a paramedic student was gang-raped in a bus in Delhi. The accused threw the victim and her friend along the way. The girl was taken to Delhi AIIMS where she was taken to Singapore for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries.
