Actor Prithviraj has come out against the actions of the new administrator amid allegations that he is bringing reforms that undermine the traditional way of life and beliefs in Lakshadweep. His response was through Facebook …
From Prithviraj’s Facebook post …
‘My first memories of these beautiful islands are from a trip I took to school when I was in sixth grade. Stunning green-blue waters and crystal clear lakes come to my mind. Years later I was taken back to the islands with the shooting crew of Sachi’s ‘Anarkali’. I spent about two months in Kavaratti. It made a lot of good memories and friends to remember for a lifetime. I went there again two years ago as part of a movie. For Lucifer’s most challenging stage of his directorial debut. That would not have been possible without the wonderful and warm-hearted people of Lakshadweep.
Over the last few days I have been getting a lot of messages from people I know and don’t know from these islands. The messages were asking what I could do to bring what was going on there to the attention of the public.
I’m not writing a long article about why the new administrator’s updates seem so weird and about the islands. It is now readily available online for those interested in reading about such things.
What I do know is that the islanders I know and those who have spoken to me are not happy about what is happening there. No law, amendment or amendment should ever be for the land. Rather, I believe that the land should be for the people. A nation, a state and a union territory have no geographical or political boundaries. But the people there.
How can disrupting the centuries-old peaceful way of life become an acceptable means of progress? How can threatening the delicate island ecosystem balance, regardless of the consequences, lead to sustainable development? I have more faith in our system and more confidence in our people.
When a whole community is dissatisfied with the decision of a nominated authority, the people there talk about their situation and they bring it to the attention of the world and the government. I think there is no other way but to act like that.
So if anyone is worried, listen carefully to the people of Lakshadweep. Trust them to know what is best for their country. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Even more beautiful people live there.
