Opening dams didn’t cause flood in 2018, Kerala Government

Kerala government asserted its stance of dams not being the major cause of 2018 flood. While submitting an affidavit at Kerala High Court, the state government has assured that the state is not in an emergency situation to open up the dams. The government further added that, the water levels of the dams are being observed using scientific measures. KSEB has attributed the 2018 Kerala flood to the downpour, while turned down mal-governance from its part.

Kerala recorded one of its highest rainfall in the year 2018, when it received an unprecedented monsoon, much more than its average figure. In 2019, the heavy rainfall repeated, and in 2020, various agencies including meteorological department have warned of the state having yet another massive monsoon.
