Chinese tech giant OnePlus is gearing up to launch its inaugural foldable smartphone. The company recently hinted at the device’s name, ‘OnePlus Open,’ and rumors suggest that the launch event might take place on August 29 in New York.
The smartphone is expected to compete with Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Google Pixel Fold.

There are rumors suggesting that the OnePlus Open could come with an outward folding design. This phone is expected to be offered in two color options, namely black and green. Initially, it might be launched in China, and later, there are plans for a global release in countries like India and the US.
Specifications
The device is anticipated to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It is expected to sport a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED primary display and a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The camera setup on the upcoming OnePlus Open smartphone is rumored to include a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 48MP secondary sensor featuring an ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP tertiary sensor equipped with a periscope lens at the rear. Additionally, the front-facing camera module is likely to house two 32MP sensors.
If these specifications remain accurate, the OnePlus Open might pose a strong challenge to competitors such as the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Pixel Fold.
Inspiration from Oppo Find N2
Given that OnePlus has merged with Oppo and the former’s devices have taken design cues from the latter, rumors suggest that the upcoming OnePlus Fold could be a derivative of the Oppo Find N2.
The Oppo Find N2 boasts a 7.6-inch WUSXGA AMOLED primary display with a resolution of 1,792 x 1,920 pixels and a secondary 5.54-inch FHD+ AMOLED cover display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,120 pixels.
Under the hood, the Oppo Find N2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, coupled with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Its camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 48MP wide-angle shooter, a telephoto lens at the rear, and a 32MP sensor at the front.
