Samsung has officially unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked event. These premium foldable Android smartphones feature a few upgrades compared to their predecessors but seem to fall short of their competition.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 has been in the news for quite some time now. Let’s look at the specifications, features, price, introductory offers, and availability of Samsung’s premium foldable Android smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Specifications, Features
Samsung has made some improvements with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, compared to its predecessor. It appears the company has listened to consumer feedback but has yet to learn from its competitors.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 features a new water drop-shaped hinge. This results in a less noticeable crease on the inner, foldable display but it means the display is now pressed against itself.
Samsung boasts the smartphone can be folded shut with no visible gaps. Such a design could allow sand, debris, and grit to scratch the entire foldable screen halves as they are now touching each other. Samsung does offer screen replacement if it breaks down within one year from purchase, but scratches aren’t covered under warranty.

Traditionally, new hinge designs have had unusually higher failure rates as manufacturers aren’t able to test them for prolonged periods before launch. Additionally, this design leaves no place for the Galaxy S-Pen stylus.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 features a 6.20-inch 2K Dynamic AMOLED outer display with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The inner, foldable display of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 measures 7.60 inches and offers a resolution of 2176 x 1812 pixels.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is paired with 12GB of RAM. Buyers can opt for 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 packs a triple camera setup on its back, headlined by a 50MP primary camera, which is accompanied by two 12MP camera modules. The premium foldable smartphone is packing a dual camera setup for selfies. The front-facing camera setup comprises a 10MP primary camera and a 4MP lens. Incidentally, the entire camera system has remained unchanged for the past couple of years.
The Samsung foldable smartphone is powered by a 4,400mAh battery, which could be a tad small to reliably support the flagship chipset and the large display. It runs One UI 5.1.1, which is based on Android 13. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 measures 130.10 x 155.10 x 6.30mm and weighs a hefty 253.00 grams.
Connectivity options on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n//ac/ax, GPS, Bluetooth v5.20, NFC, USB Type-C, 3G, 4G, and 5G. Sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, compass/ magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and an under-display fingerprint sensor.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Price, Availability In India
The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event may have occurred in Seoul, South Korea. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available in multiple markets, including India.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available in Cream, Icy Blue, and Phantom Black colors. It will also support the Galaxy S-Pen.
There’s no slot for a stylus on the device. Instead, Samsung is offering a case for the smartphone which features a slot where users can slide their S-Pen for safekeeping.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is available for pre-order in select markets today and will be on sale from August 11. The entry-level model with 256GB internal storage has been priced at £1,749 (approx INR 1,58,496), the 512GB model is listed for £1,849 (approx INR 1,68,000), and the 1TB variant has been priced at £2,049 (approx INR 1,86,000).
The price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is quite concerning because Samsung is no longer the only company offering foldable smartphones. Moreover, phones such as Tecno Phantom V Fold are available at a much lesser price.
