MES issued a circular turning down veiled dresses in campus

The circular issued by Muslim Educational Society (MES) seems to have irked the religious outfits across the state. Earlier on the day, MES had issued a circular, in which they banned people from wearing dresses, which cover the face. While issuing the circular, the society had opined that they were simply following the verdict issued by the High Court couple of months ago.

However, religious outfits such as Samastha have deployed their armours against the circular of MES. They added that veiled dresses, such as purdah were part of the religious beliefs and MES had no role in deciding the matters pertaining to religion. Samastha president Sayyid Jifri Muthukoya Thangal added that Islam advocates women to cover their faces, while coming before a man, who is a stranger. However, MES President PA Fazal Gafoor maintained that the new circular would come into effect from the 2019 academic year onwards.
