Famous Mappilappattu artist Peer Mohammad (75) passed away here today. He died at his home in Muzhappilangad, Kannur on Tuesday morning. The cause of death is congenital diseases of old age. He had been undergoing treatment for paralysis for a long time. Peer Mohammad, the creator of many hit Mappila songs, played a major role in popularizing Mappila songs.
Born in Tenkashi, Peer Mohammad was coming to Thalassery with his father. He started singing songs from the age of four. At the age of seven, his song was recorded. Tens of thousands of songs have been recorded by Peer Mohammad. He has organized many Mappilappattu chants. He has shared the stage with famous Mappilappattu artist VM Kutty and has performed in many shows. Vyloppilly described Peer Mohammad as the person who hid koel bird in his throat. Peer Mohammad was a member of the Janatha troupe with friends and later started his own troupe in Thalassery.
