Vehicle owners can now add nominee to the vehicle registration. Modified Vehicle Registration Website now allows the owner to include the nominee for new and existing vehicles. The new system will be able to avoid disputes over ownership following the death of the owner and alleviate the complexities of the transfer.
If the owner dies, the ownership is transferred after hearing the arguments of all the existing heirs. Ownership can only be changed if there is a consensus between the heirs. In addition, everyone must go to the office of the Department of Motor Vehicles and submit a certificate. Direct certification was made mandatory after the dispute over the transfer of the vehicle without the knowledge of the claimants. There have been several cases where vehicles have been seized and sold by relatives without the knowledge of the owner and heirs. There are about 400 cases pending in various offices in connection with the dispute.
Only those who have their own mobile number in the registration documents will have the opportunity to add a nominee. Enter the vehicle registration number at vahan.parivahan.gov.in From the Services tab, select the Ad-Nominee option in Additional Services. The registration date and registration period should be recorded along with the engine and chassis numbers. Then the name of the nominee and the relationship with the owner can be included. If the owner dies, the claimant can apply to have the vehicle in his name. The death certificate of the owner and the documents proving the relationship with the nominee should be produced. There is no fee to include a nominee.
