Lockdown: Kerala Motor Vehicles Department reduced tax and extended payment dates

Lockdown to defy Corona has put the automotive sector in crisis. Stopping public transport systems has exacerbated the crisis in the private bus and auto-taxi sectors. Considering this, the Kerala Department of Motor Vehicles has come forward to assist vehicle owners in the state.The MVD is decided to assist with exemption of all categories of vehicle taxes and extending the due date.

Stage carriage buses have been extended from February 15 to April 30 for the quarterly tax return, which ends on March 31. A quarter (1/3) of the quarterly tax expires on June 30, and the deadline to pay it is May 14.

The department also provided a 20% discount on its quarterly tax expense on contract payments ending June 30. The closing date for the payment was April 14 to April 30. The closing date for the quarterly tax return for the goods’ goods business, which expires on June 30, has been extended from April 30 to May 15.

The tax due date for non-transport vehicles, which expires on March 31, is April 14 to April 30. Additionally, the deadline for submission of G form is extended from March 30 to April 30.

In case of new vehicle owners unable to register their vehicle due to lockdown, the increase in the one-time tax proposed for Kerala Finance Bill 2020 for new motorcycles, three-wheelers, motor cars and construction equipment used for private purposes effective from 1st April was avoided. This discount applies only to those who have taken temporary registration on or before 30th March and have applied to the Registration Authority.
