Kiran Kumar sentenced to 10-year jail term in Vismaya case

In the final verdict, Kollam Additional Sessions court on Tuesday convicted Kiran Kumar accused in Vismaya death case to 10 year imprisonment.

He has been awarded another six-and two-year terms on other charges -that of abetment of suicide (Sec 306) and subjecting a woman to cruelty (Sec 498 A). Kiran has also been slapped a fine of Rs 12.5 lakh too on various counts.

The former Kerala government employee was found guilty by the court on Monday.

Kiran Kumar on Tuesday, meanwhile, requested the court to spare him from maximum punishment as was the lone support for his elderly parents. He informed the court that his father was suffering from memory loss and that his mother was a diabetic patient with high blood pressure.

Kiran’s lawyers requested the court to avoid giving him a life sentence considering his age.
