Accused found guilty in case of rape and murder of five-year-old girl; Sentencing Thursday

The court found the accused Asfaq Alam guilty in the case of raping and killing a five-year-old girl in Aluva. Ernakulam POCSO Court Judge K. Soman found the accused guilty. The court found that all the charges against the accused were proved. The accused will be sentenced on Thursday, November 9. In the verdict, the court stated that all 16 charges against the accused, including murder and rape, were proved. The prosecution asked the court to give maximum punishment to the accused. At the same time, the defense also asked the court to consider the mental health report of the accused before passing the sentence.

The prosecution informed the court that the prison department had prepared a mental health report for the hundred days when the accused was in jail. The prosecution also told the court that the accused had committed the same crime earlier. After hearing the arguments of the prosecution and the defense, the court asked to produce the mental health report of the accused. This report sought to ascertain whether the accused is likely to repent or not. The court then stated that the sentence in the case will be announced on November 9.
