Cedus Cadilla, a pharmaceutical company based in Ahmedabad cleared the drug controller general of India’s approval for the Covid vaccine trial in humans. This is a continuation of the decision to expedite vaccine testing procedures. Bharat Biotech in association with National Institute of Virology has approved the vaccine test in human for the first time in India. ICMR has asked them to complete the trial before August 15.
If this succeeds, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to announce the vaccine when he addresses the country on Independence Day. Accordingly, the ICMR has proposed to speed up the experiment.
However, the ICMR has confirmed that the vaccine release will depend on the outcome of clinical trials. The safety of the vaccine was confirmed in the pre-clinical trial. Based on this, companies have been granted permission to test in humans.
