Heavy rains in Kerala till August 20; Orange alert in 5 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Kerala till August 20. Isolated showers are also possible. Concerns have been raised about the possibility of a similar situation to the floods of the last two years. Meanwhile, heavy rains continue in the state.

The Kutyadi area was flooded. Seven families were evacuated from the Thottilpalam. In Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Idukki, and Kottayam, the overnight rain subsided.

An orange alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. A yellow alert has been declared in Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Alappuzha districts. Fishermen have been warned not to go to sea as strong winds are likely. Train services via Kottayam have been suspended due to a landslide in the tunnel near the Kottayam railway station.
