Four cops suspended over custodial torture in Kollam’s Kilikollur

Kerala police on Thursday suspended four policemen of Kilikollur police station after allegedly thrashing youths. Sub-Inspector Aneesh, senior CPOs Prakash Chandran and VR Dileep and SHO Vinod were suspended from the service.

The complainant Vignesh stated that he was summoned to the station by police on August 26 to bail an accused nabbed in an MDMA case. However, he was unwilling and refused it. Meanwhile, his brother reached the station and subsequently they indulged in a brawl and an officer ended up by slapping the brother with charges of attacking police officials.

According to Vignesh’s statement, the police tortured them for hours and were remanded for 12 days. However, police denied such allegations and claimed that the brothers first unleashed attacks.

Following a preliminary probe, the department decided to transfer the accused officials to stations outside the Kollam district. However, the surging protests and demonstrations against Kilikollur police urged the department to adopt severe actions against the accused.
