Expatriates must stay in Quarantine for 14 days in Kerala: Central Govt in High Court

The Central Government has told the High Court that as per the current procedure, foreign nationals must stay under 14 days of centralized surveillance. Meanwhile, the state attorney general informed the court that the chief secretary had written to the central government demanding the quarantine days be reduced. The case was adjourned to Tuesday.

The High Court held that the center and the state should decide on it. The petitioners, who had earlier filed a petition in the High Court seeking action to bring the expatriates to the court, informed the court that the expatriation would be hampered if it did not resolve the confusion regarding the institutional quarantine days.

The state government maintains that the quarantine is only 7 days away from conducting inspections from abroad as well as before the quarantine. Meanwhile, the central government has said that the current procedure is for expatriates to stay home after checking in after a 14-day centralized quarantine and can go to home if found covid negative.

The demand of the state government is under the consideration of the central government. An expert committee of the Ministry of Health is considering this demand. The centralized quarantine period will be 14 days until the committee makes its final decision. The central government has informed the court that it cannot change that now.
