Changing vehicle ownership is easy in Kerala, Online procedure has been simplified

Department of Motor Vehicles, Kerala has simplified procedures for transferring ownership of vehicles. The decision comes after Minister AK Saseendran received complaints that if the person selling or buying the vehicle is within 2 offices, the applicants have to approach both offices for obtaining a no-duplicate certificate and for registering the transfer.

Under the amended procedure, the vehicle owner and the buyer must jointly apply for the vehicle through the online system of ‘Vahan4’. Upload copies of the OTP and documents that come with both the mobile phones. Office of seller or buyer residence can opt for online submission. Then send by post to the chosen office along with the original RC and other supporting documents, adequate stamped address and cover letter written by the buyer. Or you can put it in the office box.

Unless you can opt out, you must submit an online token and submit your application directly. Such applications should be decided in accordance with the preference order. A new registration certificate will be sent to the new owner from the requesting office. The old registration certificate will be destroyed. When the buyer and the seller are in different offices and apply for the seller’s office, the vehicle’s current registration authority is authorized to record the transfer of the vehicle to the jurisdiction of any other registered authority within the state. No vehicle-related punishment should be in place while transferring the ownsership.

All applications to be submitted to the RTO offices in relation to vehicles can now be deposited in the office premises box.
