As the random sampling has revealed a large number of number Covid positive cases, section 144 has been imposed in Ponnani Taluk. Announced by the District Collector, the decision was taken on the wake of the threat of community spread in the Taluk. The test results of last 3 days has revealed 30 positive cases in the Taluk, all of which are through transmission. The 144 would be applicable to all the 9 Panchayats in the Taluk.
With this, not more than 5 people are allowed to gather in a place. However, there would be exemption in front of the shops, which meets essential services. All kinds of journeys are prohibited in Ponnani, with hospital cases, marriage, and crematoria functions are exempted from the prohibition.
