Car bomb attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama Ceased ; 2019 Model Bombing Planned

Srinagar: Security forces blocked a massive car bomb attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night. The vehicle carrying 40-45kg of improvised explosive (IED) was blocked. The plan had some similarities with last year’s terrorist attacks in Pulwama. Forty soldiers were killed in the suicide attack. The explosive car crashed into the CRPF convoy.

According to intelligence reports, a white Hyundai Santro car with a fake registration number was signalized to stop at a checkpoint Wednesday night, but it accelerated and attempted to go through the barricade, police said.

The security forces fired. The driver escaped. Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said he was in a car with an IED. We’ve got intelligence on the possibility of an attack. Since yesterday we have been searching for a vehicle with IED, he added.

The terrorist intends to target the security forces vehicles. We call in the expert teams from the outside. We suspect the vehicle was carrying 40-45kg of explosives, ”the news agency ANI reported. The driver Hizbul Mujahideen is suspected to be a terrorist. It is related to Jaish-e-Mohammed, who was involved in the suicide attack on CRPF convoy last year.

The car was later destroyed by the bomb disposal team with the IED. The massive explosion damaged several homes in the area.

“It (the car) was under surveillance at night and evacuated people from nearby houses. The vehicle was destroyed by a bomb disposal squad. This is a serious threat to the evacuation,” said Dilbag Singh, Director of Police.

Kumar said this was a joint operation by the army, police and paramilitary forces.

After the terrorist attacks in the same district on February 14 last year, India bombed Pakistan’s militant group Jaish-e-Muhammad’s camp. Air strikes between Indian and Pakistani fighter jets.

There have been terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two months. More than 30 security personnel, including officers, lost their lives. Security forces have also fired 38 militants during this period.

Hizbul Mujahideen Riaz Naik, one of the most wanted militants and commander of the terrorist group, was killed during a clash in Pulwama earlier this month.

Terrorist attacks are mounting amid reports that Pakistan’s highly trained militants have infiltrated the country even as the country struggles with the coronavirus crisis.
