Kalpetta: In a high-level meeting, it was decided to recommend to the government for compensation of 50 lakhs to the family of Paul, who was killed in a wild elephant attack in Wayanad Pulpalli.
11 lakh including insurance amount of 1 lakh will be paid immediately. Wife will also be given a job. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held in Pulpalli panchayat. The decision came amid heavy protests.
Meanwhile, the hartal in Wayanad related to wildlife attacks is progressing. All over the city people are protesting on the day of hartal with go back calls.
Protesters threw stones and chairs at the police. The MLAs who came to the discussion to cool down the protest were booed. As the crowd became aggressive, the police resorted to lathicharge.
Paul, an employee of the Kurua Island Forest Conservation Society (VSS), was on his way to work when he was confronted by a herd of elephants.
Paul said that when he got scared, he fell down and was kicked by the wild boar that came after him. Colleagues who came to know about the incident took Paul to Mananthavadi Medical College Hospital.
Later, after Paul's condition worsened, he was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, but due to delay in treatment, his life could not be saved.
