Wi-Fi hotspots of BharatNet is a big success; village data usage sees a jump

The ‘BharatNet’ program launched by the government is proving to be highly successful. The establishment of the Wi-Fi hotspots under the project, has seen the data usage in villages jumping by 190 percentage. Within a span of six months, the total data usage in rural areas, have ticked 95 terabytes. The report released by officials informs that during the first half of the last twelve months, the data consumption in rural areas, stood at around 33 TB.

The BharatNet project connects over 1 lakh gram panchayats, while it is expected to cover the rest within this year. The Wi-Fi choupals were launched by the DoT in association with CSC-SPV.
