Kochi: Director Kamal said that when the CPI approached him to contest in Ponnani, he first called Pinarayi Vijayan, who was the party secretary of the CPIM.
Tamasha Ruperna Kamal said that Pinarayi’s reply was ‘don’t go that way’ when the matter was brought up. Kamal’s revelation was while talking to Reporter TV.
CPI had asked to contest the elections. I had nothing to do with Ponnani. His wife Ponnani was an English lecturer at MES College.
He lived there on rent for six years. So he had little contact with people on his left. I was popular there.
So the CPI was looking for a left independent candidate to contest in Ponnani. A few people including KP Rajendran came home and said that they should contest anyway.
But then I said no. I had no connection with CPI. It was CPIM.
Later, Pinarayi, who was the party secretary at that time, called Comrade directly. People have come asking me to compete, asking what should be done. Kamal said that his reply was that he should not go that way.
