Travancore Dewaswam Board President turns down Sabarimala Thantri; Sabarimala to open from 14 onward

Sabarimala entry seems to be creating quite a lot of controversy, as Thantri and Devaswom Board have presented contradictory remarks. Couple of hours ago, it was reported that Thantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru wrote a letter to the Devaswom Board informing his reluctance in opening Sabarimala temple and barring pilgrims from entering the temple. The letter composed by the Thantri made it clear that considering the Covid 19 situation, it wouldn’t be a good decision to open the temple and conduct the festival, which is scheduled to take place from 19th this month onwards

Meanwhile, Travancore Devaswom Board President N Vasu has made it clear that he hadn’t received the letter from the Thantri. He also turned down the suggestion put forwarded by the Thantri. N Vasu also said that it is not up to Thantri to decide matters regarding the functioning of the temple. Stating that the new of the letter came as a surprise to him, as they had several sessions of discussions, N Vasu however asserted that the temple would reopen on June 14th, as it was scheduled to. That said, the authorities have already started the virtual queue procedures for entering pilgrims. Former Devaswom board President Ajay Tharayil though said that Thantri don’t have final words on technical aspects of the temple, he however was of the opinion that the board should value Thantri’s stance.
