Thrissur Pooram 2020 Cancelled due to Covid Pandemic: Kerala govt decided to cancel thrissur pooram festival, scheduled to be held on 3rd May 2020. The decision was take unanimously by the government and the concerned devasom & trusts. The decision to cancel the 2020 pooram was announced by minister VS Sunil Kumar today. This is the first time in the history of Thrissur Pooram festival, decided to cancel completely.

World famous Thrissur Pooram is Hindu festival held annually in Thrissur district, Kerala. It is held at the Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur every year on the Pooram day – the day when the moon rises with the Pooram star as per the Malayalam calendar month of ‘Medam’.

As per the decision only the ritual ceremonies will be held on 3rd May, with 4 or 5 priests are allowed to participate. This will be a huge set back for thousands of Thrissur Pooram fans, but they have to accept the decision as the Coronavirus (COVID19) pandemic can not be controlled without social distancing.
