Chennai: A transgender man has been arrested for burning a young IT worker alive in Tamil Nadu. Vetrimaran Maheshwari (26) was arrested in the case of murder of 27-year-old R. Nandini, a native of Madurai.
Police say that Vetrimaran killed Nandini brutally.
The police said that Nandini was brutally killed by the accused after chaining her hands and feet.
The accused burnt Nandini alive after inflicting deep wounds on both arms, legs and neck with the blade.
The murder took place in a secluded area of Ponmar near Thalambur on Saturday evening.
On Saturday night, Nandini was found severely burnt by the residents in a deserted area. He was rushed to the hospital but died.
The police said that the reason for the murder was Nandini’s withdrawal from the relationship.
Vetri was Maheshwari before the gender reassignment surgery. Maheshwari and Nandini studied in the same school in Madurai. Relatives said that the two were close friends.
Nandini moved to another school for further studies. Meanwhile, Maheshwari underwent sex reassignment surgery and became a veterinarian. Both were working in the same IT firm for the past 8 months.
But the police say that there was a quarrel between the two for some time. Vetrimaran was unhappy that Nandini was talking to other male friends.
Nandini had not spoken to Vetrimaran for some time. Meanwhile, he saw Nandini with another young man. The police said that the accused decided to kill Nandini because of this.
24th was Nandini’s birthday. On the eve of this, Vetrimaran called Nandini to a secluded area saying that he would meet her once again on Saturday and that he had a surprise gift.
The police suspect that the accused may have killed the woman after tying her hands under the pretense of giving a gift. The police stated that a detailed investigation is being conducted into the incident and further action will be taken after questioning the accused.
