Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Sabu Thomas has addressed the media and said that the authorities of the BVM Holy Cross College did a mistake in invigilation duty, which resulted in a final year student committing suicide in Kottayam. Terming the suicide of Anju Shaji committing suicide, quite an unfortunate one, the MG VC opined that the University would arrange a detailed probe on the issue. Stating that the authorities have forced the student to sit in the examination hall for more than 32 minutes, MGU VC maintained that it should have been avoided. An important decision announced by the University is that of setting up counseling centers in all colleges.

He also informed that Chief Superintend in charge of the examination in the college would be removed from the respective position, so would be the college principal from the examination duties. Condemning the act of releasing the CCTV footage of that day, MGU VC stressed the importance of making the system more student-friendly. He also ensured that they have collected the address of all the students who were present in the examination hall that day, and would take statements from them, once the examinations are over.
