Sri Rama idol installed at Ravana Temple in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. In Ayodhya, Rama was enshrined in the Ravana temple on the same day that Prana Pratishtha took place in the Ram temple.
The idols of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman are installed next to the sanctum sanctorum where the Shiva Lingam is placed in the temple.
Yesterday around 2000 people came to the temple and installed the idols of Rama, Sita, brother Lakshmana and Hanuman in the temple.
Jayshreeram called them and came with saffron flags. The group that arrived as a procession performed the dedication in the presence of 11 priests. The idols were brought from Jaipur in Rajasthan.
Local priests said that the area will henceforth be known as ‘Ram Darbar’ (Court of Ram). The incident took place in Bisrakh, Greater Noida.
The village Bisrakh is named after Ravana’s father Vishrava. Legend has it that both of them were born there.
Priest Ramdas said that it is believed that the demon king Ravana worshiped Lord Shiva in this temple. This temple is known as Pracheen Shivakshetra (Ancient Shiva Temple).
There was a deity of Lord Shiva in the shrine. Devotees believe that Brahma and Pulastya Muni performed penance at the place where the temple is located.
It is believed that as a result of this penance, the Shivalinga fell from the earth. The life story of Ravana is also engraved on the walls of the sanctum sanctorum where the Shivalinga is located.
The temple is said to be at least 7000 years old. The village is believed to be the birthplace of Vishrava, the father of Ravana, Vibhishana and Kumbhakarna.
The priest said that he is looking forward to this year’s Dussehra with the new dedication and will worship the two together by placing the idol of Ravana next to the idol of Lord Rama.
