Situation is serious at Poonthura area as the social spreading of Covid-19 is increasing day by day. 120 people were identified in the primary contact list of a Covid positive patient in Poonthura. Out of 600 initial sample tested through rapid test, 119 found positive. The situation is poiting towards a confirmed community spread at Poonthura area.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for an immediate intervention to stop the spread of Covid-19 in Poonthura. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the Home Secretary and the Police Chief reviewed the situation in Poonthura. The chief minister had directed the emergency intervention as 120 persons came in first and 150 in secondary contact with the patient.
As part of the restrictions, people from outside are severely blocked from reaching Poonthura and the borders are closed. In addition, the Coastal Police have been instructed to prevent people from reaching Poontura by sea. The chief minister’s office said that the collector has been given all the help needed by the people of the area and the collector has been asked to give five kilos of free ration to each family in the three wards of Poontura from tomorrow.
Additional police have been deployed in Poonthara to strengthen restrictions. People from Poontura and surrounding areas should not be released. Coastguarding has also been put in place to ensure that workers do not go fishing. The 10-member rapid force is deployed at Poonthura. Antigen testing is also being carried out in the area. The list of travelers in Vizhinjam section will be prepared and checked.
Covid confirmed to 37 people in Poonthura and Vallakkadavu areas yesterday. Fifty-five percent of test positives are positive. Meanwhile, a meeting of party leaders in the municipal council is in progress to discuss the vigilance measures to be taken, including at Poonthura.
