Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series Launched: Are The Upgrades Enough To Dethrone The Apple iPad Pro?

Samsung has launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Watch 6 series. These tablets pack flagship-grade chipsets and feature AMOLED screens.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series was a curious and rather disappointing bunch as Samsung chose to segment its product line, restricting the base models to LCD screens. Has the company also pulled off a similar stunt with the Tab S9 series this time?

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Specifications, Features, Price

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series way back in 2020. Hence, it was high time the company launched its successors, with some serious upgrades. It appears Samsung hasn’t changed the outer appearance of the tablets as they look very similar to their predecessors.

The entire Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with a peak clock speed of 3.36GHz. The powerful chipset has been paired with up to 12GB RAM. Buyers can opt for up to 256GB of internal storage.

Samsung is offering the Galaxy Tab S9 series in Wi-Fi only and 5G variants. The entry-level Galaxy Tab S9 features an 11-inch WQXGA screen with a 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution.
The tablet features a 12MP camera on the front and a 13MP camera on the back. The Tab S9 has an 8,400mAh battery.

The entry-level Wi-Fi version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, packing 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, has been priced at $799/£799 (₹65,500)

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ Specifications, Features, Price

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ has a slightly larger 12.4-inch WQXGA Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 2800 x 1752 pixels resolution.

The tablet packs 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Although it has a single 12MP front-facing camera, the Tab S9+ features a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 13MP primary camera, coupled with an 8MP lens.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+ has a significantly bigger 10,900mAh battery, compared to the 8,400mAh battery inside the entry-level Tab S9.

The Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab S9 Plus with 256 GB of storage has been priced at $1,149/£999 (approx. ₹94,200).

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra Specifications, Features, Price

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the biggest tablet in the series, featuring a 14.6-inch WQXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2960 x 1848 pixels resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

The Tab S9 Ultra features a dual front-facing camera setup comprising a pair of 12MP cameras. The tablet features a 13MP + 8MP dual-camera setup on the back.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra tablet can be configured with up to 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage. It packs an 11,200mAh battery. With the biggest screen in the series and the largest battery, the tablet is rumored to have the largest form factor.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra starts at $1,199/£1,199 (approx Rs. 98,400) for the 12GB + 256GB variant.

All the tablets under the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series have secured an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. They will run the latest Android 13, with a custom layer of One UI 5.1.1. These portable Android computers also support the S-Pen stylus and even offer a dedicated charging strip and microSD card storage expansion.

Samsung has tried to one-up the Apple iPad Pro series with the IP67 rating. Apple doesn’t offer any such assurances. Additionally, the tablets appear to have larger batteries too. However, only real-world tests will confirm if these features are enough to dethrone the iPad and the refined iPadOS.
