RIFFK to pay homage to KPAC Lalitha; Film Festival to screen ‘Shantham’

The Regional International Film Festival of Kerala (RIFFK) which is schedules to be held in Kochi from April 1 to 5 will pay homage to veteran late actress KPAC Lalitha. To celebrate the outstanding contribution in the Malayalam cinema, KPAC Lalitha’s film ‘Shantham’ will be screened on the fourth day of RIFFK.

“As a homage to veteran film and stage actress KPAC Lalitha and eminent writer and actor Madambu Kunjukuttan, Jayaraj Nair ’s Shantham (2001) will be screened. KPAC Lalitha was awarded the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her intense performance in the film as a mother struck with grief over the death of her son. Madambu Kunjukuttan won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2000 for Jayaraj’s Karunam, collaborated with him again for this film and wrote the screenplay,” a statement published on the film festival’s official Facebook page read.

‘Shantham’ (2001) directed by Jayaraj featured I M Vijayan, a leading Indian football player of modern times, M G Shashi, Seema Biswas and K P A C Lalitha. It won the Swarna Kamal Award for the Best Feature Film in the 48th National Film Awards, 2001. The film also received the National Best Supporting Actress Award for K P A C Lalitha.

‘Shantham’ is the story of Velayudhan (I M Vijayan), a young man living in a place torn apart by civil strife. In the midst of a raging street war, he kills his best friend. Velayudhan feels guilty and disturbed, and his political enemies plot revenge on him.
