Poisonous gas leak in Vizag; Eight people died

Vizag: Eight people were killed in a gas leak at a chemical plant in Vizag in Andhra Pradesh. An eight-year-old boy, who breath poisonous gas died on Thursday morning at 3am, the national news agency ANI reported. The gas leak occurred at the polyesterine producing plant of LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd near RR Venkatapuram village near Vizag when the closed factory reopened yesterday.

About 1,000 people were taken to hospital. The condition of 20 people is critical. The leak was finally closed at around 6am in the morning. Styrene was the gas leaked from the factory. It is concluded that the gas is spread over five kilometers. Twenty villages have been evacuated. Police are raiding the houses and checking in for possible unconscious or dead locals. The crowded colony near the factory also raises concerns over the gas leak. About 15 people are said to be in hospital. The incident has affected three villages near Gopalapatnam.
