Olympic Games Not Cancelled, But To Be Postponed

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics may be postponed due to the outbreak of Kovid-19. International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said Sunday that the governing body did not agree with the cancellation of the Olympics but that the decision to postpone the decision would be taken within four weeks.

With just four months to go before the Tokyo Olympics, the IOC is facing mounting pressure from various athletes, federations and countries to postpone the Olympics.

Brazil, followed by Norway, Colombia and Slovenia, also called for a change of games. The Olympics are scheduled for July 24 to August 9.

IOC President Thomas Bach says the cancellation of the Olympics will eliminate the dream of more than 11,000 athletes from 206 national Olympic committees and their supporters. The president says he is in a dilemma.

Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had earlier said that the Kovid 19 fears would have to be postponed by the Tokyo Olympics. He added that he was not thinking of canceling the Olympics but would delay the holding of the Games.

In Japan alone, 37 people have died of the coronavirus on Sunday alone.
