Nothing unusual: IMD predicts normal monsoon this year

Considering the gradual weakening of El Nino by June this year, India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintained that the country would record normal monsoon this year. The department predicts the monsoon rain in India this year to be 96 percent of the long time country average. While informing the findings, Secretary of Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Rajeevan Nair maintained that the rainfall this year would be around 89 cm.

However, the weak status of El Nino is expected to continue throughout this Summer in the country. The agency also informed that monsoon would be uniformly distributed across the country. Kerala could take a sigh this year, as it had recorded a heavy monsoon rainfall last year, which was about 75% more than the usual rainfall in the state.
