Nipah virus presence confirmed in Kerala

After a gap of one year, the presence of Nipah virus in Kerala was confirmed by the government. The test results of a youngster from Kochi, have been released by the Pune Virology Institute, which confirmed that he was under the attack of Nipah virus. Health Minister KK Shailaja has convened a press meet today, and asked people not to be panicked. Minister maintained that adequate protective mechanisms have been incorporated in order to prevent the disease from contaminating.

While speaking to the media, Minister confirmed that a total of 86 people are under observation and are subject to home quarantine. All of them have had the past of maintaining a close relationship with the affected youth. Maintaining that all the facilities have been readied at the Kalamassery Medical College, Minister also said that a team of doctors from Kozhikode have reached Kochi, in order to utilize their experience with handling the Nipah virus last year.
