Net Neutrality: TRAI asks ISPs to follow Core Principles

In order to release internet services from the clutches of discriminatory policies, TRAI has come up with some important instructions regarding ‘Net Neutrality’. It was after going through the recommendations provided by the stakeholders, which TRAI has come up with their latest statement. As per the statement, TRAI said that no ISPs could engage in discrimination in terms of the treatment of content. The term of treatment, has a wider aspect as it includes, ‘blocking’, ‘slowing down’ or even ‘degrading’.

With this statement, the regulators have made it clear that ISPs were not allowed to reach in on terms with any particular person or party of interest. However TRAI’s recommendations do allow ISPs to engage in ‘reasonable traffic management’, provided that such acts were not violating the ‘proportionate’, ‘transient’ and ‘transparency’ of the procedure.
