Naomi Osaka withdrawal from French Open; shocked tennis world

World number two Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from the 2021 French Open The organizers of the four Grand Slam tournaments have issued a joint statement warning that action will be taken against Osaka, who left the court without seeing the media after the first round match. This was followed by Osaka withdrawing from the tournament.

Gilles Moreton, president of the French Tennis Federation, has apologized following Osaka’s resignation. Moreton responded that it was sad. Osaka’s second round match will be played on June 2 against Romania’s Ana Bogdan.

Osaka announced the decision on Twitter. Osaka tweeted that his interventions should not be a problem for other players and that he should not cause them to lose concentration in their game. Osaka added that the position was very precise and that he could not yet feel the psychological pressure created by the media.

Osaka, who returned without seeing the media after winning the first round of the French Open, was fined $ 15,000. In a letter to Osaka, the organizers said the fines and action would be severe if the boycott continued in the coming matches. “Change will upset some,” Osaka said.

Osaka had announced before the tournament that it would not see the media after the match. She also commented that the questions of the media after the defeat were tantamount to throwing a fallen man. The organizers pointed out that cooperation with the media is included in the law of grand slams
