Milk prices are likely to soar in Kerala by more than Rs 6 per litre. A committee, appointed by Milma, submitted its interim report recommending a price hike of Rs 7-8 per litre on Sunday.
As per the committee’s report, a hike of Rs 7-8 per litre is demanded by the dairy farmers. Only then can the farmers receive a fair amount excluding commission.
The committee in its report stated that a currently, a farmer receives Rs 38-40 per litre. The production cost is up to Rs 46. Hence, prices should be hiked in such a way that the farmers will receive at least Rs 6 as profit. It also recommends that cattle health insurance should be implemented as the current insurance scheme is not enough.
