As was expected by everyone, Lucifer has become the first ever Malayalam movie, which has crossed half a million mark at the US box office. As was reported by trackers, the movie has gone past the $500K mark the US box office, while the overall North American box office figure, stands at $620K plus. Interestingly, the movie continues to attract audiences in the US and is not showing signs of slowing down at the heartland of Hollywood.
More than achieving the milestone, Lucifer has given an important mileage for Malayalam film industry, with the US market being wide opened for Mollywood. Also, it must be added that Lucifer has been giving neck to neck competition to Hindi – Telugu biggies in the US, a market, which has a large diaspora of respective languages. The statistics suggest that Lucifer happens to be the second highest South Indian grosser in foreign markets this year, trailing only behind Rajinikanth starred Petta. While the latter’s figure stands close to $10 million mark, the Mohanlal – Prithviraj entertainer has already earned $6 million from overseas.
