Lightning fast, excellent network capacity; What is 5G and where is it first in Kerala?

After Kochi, telecom companies are coming to the capital with 5G services. It has been announced that Jio 5G service will be made available in Thiruvananthapuram city by the end of this month. Apart from Jio, Airtel and V Network have also started 5G trial runs in several parts of the city. The high-speed data transfer enabled by 5G is expected to be life-changing.

The Chief Minister formally inaugurated Jio’s 5G services in the cities of Kochi and Guruvayur the other day. Jio 5G will reach Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Malappuram cities by January 2023. At the inauguration ceremony in Kochi, the Chief Minister announced that 5G will be available in all taluks of the state by the end of next year.

What is 5G?

5G is the fifth generation wireless network after 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G and it is a new network that connects everything like machines, devices, and objects. 5G is characterized by lightning speed, low latency (delay to initiate data transfer), extensive network capacity, and unified customer experience. 5G network enables 50 times faster speed, 10 times lower latency, and 1000 times network capacity than existing 4G. While 4G operates in a bandwidth of up to six GHz, 5G can operate in a range of 30 to 300 GHz.

Big leap in digital

The 5G network with high-speed data transfer and extensive network capacity is expected to pave the way for a huge leap in the digital arena. Branches like Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Virtual – Augmented Reality will be fully developed through 5G. There will be revolutionary changes in the fields of agriculture, health, transport, and education.

Need a 5G phone

In order to get 5G services provided by telecom companies, phones and tablets must have the facility. Most of the newly launched phones are 5G enabled. As 5G requires more antennas, uninterrupted 5G reception will be impossible for the time being. Therefore, the service of 4G will be necessary for some time at least. Network switching will happen naturally when the range of 5G towers is reached. The company has informed us that Jio customers who have a 5G phone will get 5G facilities without changing the SIM.
