The heavy rain has wreaked havoc in Munnar’s Rajamala. Reportedly, it is at the Pettimudi Division of Kannan Devan’s tea estate at Neymakkadu that was subject to the massive landslide. As heavy rain continues, the place met with landslide, as a result of which some 20 houses were buried under the mud. The incident took place in the early hours of the day and 3 people were admitted to KDHP hospital in Munnar. Reports suggested that more people are under mud with authorities already asking nearby hospitals to be ready to accommodate more people.

Munnar, which is yet to recover from the Covid pandemic, is struggling to cope with heavy rains. Lack of proper infrastructure facilities is creating problems for NDRF units to reach the spot. With Rajamala’s communication facilities are down, it has turned out to be a cumbersome task to know the exact situation of the place. Sources suggest that more than eighty people are trapped under the debris.
