Gavi in Pathanamthitta district is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Kerala. The scenes in the Malayalam movie ‘Ordinary’ made the tourists flock to Gavi. With the huge increase in the number of tourists visiting Gavi, KSRTC has included Gavi in its journey of connecting tourist destinations. If the service from Kozhikode starting next month is successful, one can expect a Gavi service from Kannur soon. This project of KSRTC is not only for travel but also for accommodation. Specially prepared buses will reach Gavi for this purpose as was done in Munnar.
On October 23 this year, KSRTC started a special department called Budget Tourism Cell to speed up the destination tourism packages. Efforts are being made to run daily services to major tourist destinations in each district. KSRTC started searching new possibilities following the huge success of the Malappuram-Munnar Tourism Service.
KSRTC is planning to launch such excursion services to more destinations. Gavi, Thenmala and Ponmudi services are likely to be available from Thiruvalla. It would be beneficial to start services that include tourism areas in Pathanamthitta district. The district has a lot to offer in terms of rural and eco-tourism.
Services can be started from other depots like the one from Pathanamthitta depot to Gavi region. Starting from Aranmula, Pandalam Palace, Mannady Veluthambi Dalava Museum, Kodumon Plantation, Konni Anakkoodu, Thannithodu Adavi, Achankovil, Chittaur and Seethathodu are some of the places to visit in Pathanamthitta district
