Konthuruthy River: High Court intervenes

Kerala High Court has made some strong remarks regarding the protection of Konthuruthy River, Kochi. Harshly criticizing the activities of encroachment across the banks of the river, the apex court of the state asked the state government to evict those parties who have encroached in the act. Further maintaining that both sides of the banks should retain the original land size, the court warned the government that no such constructions should be made on the banks of the river hereafter.

However, it has to be seen how the government is going to rehabilitate those who have encroached the banks of the river. The flood, which happened on both the previous years, and its recurring nature, have all given a different dimension to the land encroachments across the state.
