The mosques in Ernakulam have opted out from opening up from June 8 onwards. The decision was taken by the ‘Mahallu Committee’. The committee also made it clear that mosques would only be opened, once the situation of Covid in Kerala comes under control. While commenting on the decision, the committee also cited the practical difficulties in controlling devotees during such a time.
Earlier on the day, various other mosque committees in Kerala have expressed their unwillingness to open up for devotees. Palayam Juma Masjid, Kozhikode Mohiyuddin Mosque, Kannur Madayi Mosque are among the prominent mosque committees that have decided to stay away from opening up mosques and accommodate devotees.
