‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ effect: ‘Shabdam’ director can’t release movie

Journalist turned director PK Sreekumar is in a dilemmatic situation, with his directorial outing ‘Shabdam’ not getting a theatre for release. The producer of ‘Shabdam’, Jayant Mammen has come up with a facebook post, underlining the actual situation of the movie. Jayant, who has also enacted an important role in the movie, mentioned that they were not given theatres even under KSFDC. That said, ‘Shabdam’ team had already submitted a request letter to Minister AK Balan as well as KSFDC Chairman Lenin Rajendran, for getting a release slot on October 11th. He however mentioned that ‘Shabdam’ is yet to get a positive nod from the authorities in this regard. He has also requested authorities to not kill his movie for big budgeted superstar movies.

Narrating the story of a family, the entire members of which can’t hear or speak, ‘Shabdam’ stars Sophia M Joy and her brother Richard in the central roles. Earlier, Sophia Richards was crowned the Miss Deaf India in 2014. The social media post made by Jayant Mammen has gone onto receive ample support from the social media users. Meanwhile, one of the most anticipated Malayalam movies of this year – ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’ is all set to hit big screens on the same day. Starring Nivin Pauly in the titular role, this Roshan Andrrews directorial also stars Mohanlal in an important role.
