Musthafa, who earned applauds from the movie buffs for his directorial project ‘Kappela’, said that the popularity that the movie gained during Covid times, was an unexpected turn of event. However, in spite of several positive remarks, Musthafa came across comments such as ‘Kappela’ promoted moral policing. The talented actor turned director turned down all such comments, and said that the film had never been made in a way that supports moral policing.  Adding that it was not intended that way, Musthafa stated that had he felt it that way, he would have made necessary changes during the stages of filming.

Musthafa said that from the days of ‘Paleri Manikyam’, his experiences have grown tremendously, and his love for cinema stays intact. He said that the entire team of ‘Kappela’ was unhappy with their film managing to run only five days in theaters, due to Covid. Sharing those times, Musthafa maintained that the producer and he used to call each other and comfort each other.

However, the release of the film on the online platform changed its course, as ‘Kappela’ truned out to become very popular. While mentioning about the success from the online platform, Musthafa said that the medium has several advantages. He was of the opinion that both negative and positive reviews are received very quickly through OTT release. He further mentioned about instances, when people watched the film by paying attention to the little details. Musthafa was also happy at seeing the comments from people from abroad as well, who informed him about the pleasing experience that ‘Kappela’ had offered.
